Dracula Untold is a movie that recalls the stor of Vlad the impaler and describes his mythical transformation into a vampire. The movie is somewhat based on historical true events; Vlad was a ruler of Wallachia , Romania in the ottoman period. At that time, Mehmed II was the sultan of Ottomans who then later battled Vlad. Different perspectives of history argue who killed whom in the battle. Despite that, the movie shows Mehmed as a cruel dictator and Vlad as the hero who sacrificed his life and turned into a vampire to save his town.
The movie holds a fantastic plot and succeeds to execute it. The Actors were chosen well and executed their roles flawlessly. Vlad was played by Luke Evans who was flawless in his performance. The fierce and confident look he had out poured Vlad’s sturdy leadership as a human and as a vampire. Mehmed, on the other hand, was played by Dominic Cooper as the cruel Islamic sultan who cared only about the reputation of his powers. For those who are not quite friends with history and names, the Islamic seal used by him during the movie explains his position. His portrayal as a rich powerful sultan was almost flawless. However, Dominic looked more like Spanish than a Turk. The attributes of a vampire used was overall excellent. They conceded with many various myths by taking the general ones: Immortality, Speed, Power, and Blood Lust.
The visual and sound effects of the movie are quiet fascinating; they helped present Vlad in an even stronger way. There is no doubt that serious work was put into it. The choice of music was not well distinguished. It did not seem to fit with the overall theme and plot of the film. It was a distraction and an obstacle to whoever directed his/her attention towards. The shooting angles and scenery was flawless; Romania and The Ottoman Empire was perfectly represented; Forests, a castle, and darkness defined Romania while fancy tents, deserts, and enormous army spoke for The Ottoman Empire.
Despite the bad choice of music, the movie was excellent overall. The combination of history and myth was a success that smoothly soothed altogether. The Theme of leadership and sacrifice was at its top representation. Dracula Untold is a must watch movie to those who would like to look deeper into Count Dracula’s lore.
